Our Corner Country community comprises not just those who live in the townships of Milparinka and Tibooburra, and some could say Packsaddle, but also those whose lives are involved with the land.
As one drives through the region the property you pass through is pastoral land where families live, raise their children, take part in community activities. Some also provide accommodation on their properties.
The community also involves the health service providers, in the case of the Corner Country those who staff the Tibooburra Health Service, or the Flying Doctor who visits each week, or when there is an emergency.
Community is also the local police officer, the volunteer SES and ambulance drivers who are there for all people when help is needed.
The people of the Corner Country love to “get together”, for a yarn, a catchup, and in the best traditions of the bush, to compete in horse or motorbike events.
They hold charity events at Packsaddle Gymkhana and Bikekhana each Easter.
The Milparinka Gymkhana takes place on the second Saturday of the July School Holidays, and during the October long weekend the Tibooburra community and friends gather for a rodeo, and New Year’s Eve is celebrated in similar style.
All events are open to the public, visitors are very welcome, and often funds raised are used to support local charities such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service or the local Tibooburra Health Clinic.”
