Art and photographic touring

With their rich palettes of colours and wonderful variety of textures and shapes, desert landscapes have long provided inspiration for artists and photographers alike.

This is why the Corner Country of western New South Wales is a perfect choice for setting up your easel or tripod.

The Corner Country has it all. Rugged purple hills and gullies. Ancient ephemeral creeks and plateaus broken by tortured trees. Ochre coloured sand dunes and cerulean skies. Vast-open spaces stretching to a far horizon.

Night-skies devoid of artificial light. Picture perfect landscapes and conditions.

Whether travelling alone or in a group, just head north from Broken Hill along the Sturt’s Steps Touring route to the Corner Country and you will be well and truly on the right track.

Right across the area are places to stay and work including station properties where you can set up in shearer’s quarters. Tours of the area, and meals, can be arranged. It’s quiet, solitary even, and truly inspirational.

So, pack the pencils and brushes, pick up the tripod and camera, and head on out to the Corner Country.

Coach Touring

Corner Country is an amazing place to visit anytime, and touring by coach just got a whole lot more interesting.

From Broken Hill to Milparinka the Silver City Highway is sealed, and there is so much to see…great landscapes, artworks in many localities, Packsaddle Roadhouse, the amazing Heritage Precinct in Milparinka, historic, and Poole’s Grave and Sturt’s Cairn.

Then, on to iconic Tibooburra, capital of the Corner Country, before heading to Fort Grey west through Sturt National Park to Cameron Corner, the wild dog fence, and beyond to the Strzelecki Track, Innamincka, Burke and Will’s Dig Tree and so much more.

Great destinations. You will be very impressed and heading back to see us again.

Coach accommodation is available at Packsaddle, Milparinka, and Tibooburra and Cameron Corner.

All that history and environment rolled into one big, fascinating package, and it is so accessible.

Touring with Kids

Head out to the Corner Country for an amazing holiday with the kids. They (and you) will discover new places, explore new horizons and learn so much about this great land.

How about planning a trip to the Corner Country during the school holidays? There’s an ever changing landscape and plenty of hills for energetic youngsters to climb, creeks to walk, sand-dunes to conquer, and plenty of spaces to go fly a kite.

Night skies are perfect for showing youngsters the constellations and planets without ambient light (especially Milparinka).

Some properties (Mount Gipps Stationstay for example) often have animals that visitors can interact with, other station properties have open-spaced private camps sites.

You will be sharing the landscape with some pretty special critters, so watch out for all the different kinds of kangaroos, birds, large and small, and other native animals.

Surrounded by history this is a great place to get the feel for what early explorers (Sturt, Burke and Wills) and pioneer families experienced, and Milparinka Heritage Precinct is a fantastic place for this to happen.
