Lookouts

“A glorious sunset is the epitome of fleeting beauty. For a few minutes, the sky is a spectacle of color, and then it’s over. Yet the psychological effects of admiring the sunset may persist long after the color has faded”. Linda Wasmer Andrews

And the same can be said about a beautiful sunrise.

With an urban skyline filled with tall buildings it is difficult to see the horizon and the wonderful spectacle of colour that a sunset or sunrise can deliver. But, here in the Corner Country most places are not affected by built structures, there is high ground where one can gather to watch in awe almost every day as the sun disappears below the horizon, or low ground where the sunrise becomes the spectacle.

The best spots for a magical sunset are likely to be:

  • On top of the Barrier Ranges at Mount Gipps Station
  • On the plains west of the Barrier Ranges, Pine View Station
  • On a sandy rise above Pimpara Lake
  • In Milparinka, the view from the Albert Hotel
  • The intersection of the Silver City Highway and the Milparinka Road
  • Sunset Hill, Tibooburra
  • Packsaddle Roadhouse
  • Packsaddle Hill (ask at the roadhouse)
  • Jumpups, Sturt National Park
  • Cameron Corner

And almost anywhere else.

The best spots for a sunrise:

Could be most places but across water is always special.

  • Pimpara Lake
  • Packsaddle Hill
