Outback Safer Driving Series Episode 4

Season 1 Episode 4 – Open & Closed Roads

Season 1 Episode 4 – Open & Closed Roads

Before travelling on any dirt road, it’s important to check to see if all the roads are open.. Road conditions out here vary really quickly. It is imperative that as part of your planning, you take into account the fact that the roads can close at any time. If it rains, the local shire or state road service will close the roads in a heartbeat. I

t’s also really important that you don’t drive on roads that are closed. There are some pretty hefty fines if you do. But fines aside, if you get stuck out here, some roads have no traffic on them for days or weeks during certain times of the year.

Importantly, as part of your planning, you need to make sure that you’ve got enough food and water for a couple of days at least, in case you’re stuck on a road that’s closed.

So remember, give yourself plenty of time, give yourself extra food, and extra water, because ultimately we want you to be as safe as possible when you’re traveling out here.

And don’t forget to check the website for the latest safety information and check for traffic updates while you still have mobile phone coverage.

Stay safe. See you on the road.
